Christopher Owens - Lysandre

My biggest concern with Christopher Owens going solo was that he would have no one around to keep him from exclusively writing folk-pop love songs. As it turns out, I was right--this is certainly and LP exclusively of folk-pop love songs. But, surprisingly, this autonomy serves him well.  Lysandre is a confident collection of wine-and-roses tunes composed by a man who has finally got full control over his craft. This is the best Paul Simon record that will be released in 2013, hand-down.

9 to 5

My work has really been getting in the way of my music listening which is not acceptable.
I am looking forward to this weekend, where I will buy the following:

Palma Violets tickets
Christopher Owens' LP
Christopher Owens tickets
Yo La Tengo's LP
Yo La Tengo tickets
A$AP Rocky's LP

Work isn't fun, but it lets me buy music, so I call it even.

PAPA "Put Me to Work"

Darren Weiss puts out some new post-Girls material of his own. It might be better than Christopher Owen's latest. God dammit, guys...why did you break up?

Christopher Owens "Here We Go"

Sometimes, I love being wrong. Christopher Owens dropped his first solo effort and it is really, really good.

R.I.P. Girls

Lest we forget, today marks the two week anniversary of Girls breaking up--or more accurately, Christopher Owens leaving the band.

Girls put out my favorite album of last year and it is a shame that this happened. A part of me died inside. The world was thrown off-balance and was only restored when I saw Tony Danza in line at the grocery store.

On the bright side, we are two weeks closer to a Chris Owens' solo effort, which we all know will be way too twee and precious, but will get rave reviews from blogs and  teenage girls alike.

"Christopher Owens' first solo release is the perfect cry-in-your-cocaine pop album. A mix of sparkling guitars and 50's swing percussion, it wipes away any fears of this indie-hunk's inability to continue on his own."- Variation of every blog's future review

"This is bullshit." - Variation of my future review

"I LOVE YOU, CHRISTOPHER!" - Verbatim review from every teen in a sundress
