Halls "White Chalk"

Today, like every day, is a perfect day for a stark piano ballad sung by a British man.

Halls' "White Chalk"  conjures up ominous imagery with tried-and-true elements of a haunting dirge (a Gregorian-eque backing chorus, sparse production, solemn lyrics) but never makes it feel like a paint-by-number. Check the video:
